Project Overview
Client: BUROTEC
Location: Lebanon
Project Type: Water Treatment & Chemical Handling Facility
Year of Execution: 2018
Scope: Turnkey Construction, Tank Fabrication & Mechanical Erection
Project Description
Safe water disinfection is a cornerstone of public health and industrial safety. ISPC partnered with BUROTEC to execute the construction and erection of a specialized Chlorination Plant. This facility handles the storage, dosing, and injection of chlorine for water treatment purposes. Given the hazardous and corrosive nature of chlorine, the project demanded the highest standards of fabrication quality and leak-proof installation to ensure operational safety and environmental protection.
Scope of Work
1. Structural & Civil Works:
Steel Structure Erection: Fabrication and installation of the steel skeleton supporting the plant’s roof and equipment platforms.
Tank Foundations: Construction of reinforced concrete bases designed to support heavy chemical storage tanks.
2. Mechanical Erection & Fabrication:
Storage Tanks: Fabrication and erection of specialized tanks designed for chemical storage, ensuring complete internal and external surface protection against corrosion.
Piping Network: Installation of chemical-resistant piping systems (utilizing specialized materials like PVC, CPVC, or lined steel) to transport chlorine from storage to dosing points without degradation.
Dosing Skids: Assembly and alignment of dosing pumps and injection skids for precise chemical control.
3. Safety & Instrumentation:
Leak Detection: Integration of safety infrastructure to monitor system integrity.
Ventilation: Installation of specialized ventilation systems to ensure safe air quality within the facility.
Key Challenges & Solutions
Challenge: Ensuring the containment of aggressive chemicals and preventing any potential leaks that could pose a risk to personnel.
Solution: ISPC applied rigorous Quality Control (QC) procedures on all welding and flanged connections, conducting pressure tests significantly higher than operating pressure to guarantee zero leakage. We also used high-grade anti-corrosive coatings on all metallic surfaces exposed to chemical vapors.
Results
The plant was successfully commissioned and handed over to the client, providing a reliable and safe infrastructure for water chlorination. The project stands as a testament to ISPC’s ability to handle Chemical Process Industries (CPI) projects with strict adherence to safety and quality standards.
