Project Description
While ISPC is renowned for heavy industrial projects, our engineering precision applies equally to civil infrastructure. We were commissioned to construct the main structural framework for the Smartville Education Center. The goal was to deliver a modern, safe, and durable facility that meets the strict safety codes required for educational institutions, utilizing a robust steel structure design to allow for wide open spaces and architectural flexibility.
Scope of Work
1. Structural Fabrication:
Beam & Column Fabrication: Precision cutting, drilling, and welding of I-beams and H-columns in our workshops according to the architectural drawings.
Pre-Assembly Checks: Ensuring all connections (plates, cleats, and bolt holes) are perfectly aligned before transporting to the site to minimize installation time.
Surface Treatment: Sandblasting and priming of all steel members to protect against rust and environmental wear.
2. On-Site Erection:
Lifting & Positioning: Using mobile cranes to hoist heavy steel members into place.
Bolting & Welding: Securing the structure with high-strength friction-grip bolts and performing on-site welding for rigid connections.
Alignment: Laser-leveling the entire frame to ensure the building is perfectly plumb and square.
3. Roofing & Cladding Support:
Purlin Installation: Installing roof purlins and side rails to support the external cladding and roofing sheets.
Safety Integration: Ensuring the structure is designed to withstand seismic loads and wind pressure (a standard requirement for public buildings in Lebanon).
Key Challenges & Solutions
Challenge: Meeting the tight project timeline to ensure the school could open for the academic year, while maintaining high aesthetic standards for exposed steelwork.
Solution: ISPC adopted a “Just-In-Time” fabrication strategy, delivering pre-finished steel sections to the site for immediate erection, significantly reducing the construction schedule without compromising quality.
Results
The steel framework was completed rapidly and safely, providing the solid skeleton upon which the Smartville Education Center was built. The project stands as a clear example of ISPC’s ability to adapt its industrial strength to create safe, functional Civil Infrastructure.
